Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is going to award Prof.Dr.Jamilur Reza Choudhury 'Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal' in recognition of his outstanding contribution in education, engineering and research

 

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is going to award Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury 'Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal' for his outstanding contribution in education, engineering and research. The award will be handed over to him quite soon.

Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhuryhad his early education in St. Gregory School and Dhaka College. He graduated from Engineering University Dhaka in 1963 and joined there as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in the same year. In 1964 he went to England for higher education with a scholarship from the oil company Burma Shell. After completing his Masters in Advanced Structural Engineering and Ph.D. from University of Southampton he returned to Bangladesh in 1968. He was appointed as a Professor of Civil Engineering in 1976.

Prof. Choudhury was a Member of Panel of Experts (advising the Government, the World Bank, Asia Development Bank and OECF, Japan) for the 4.8 Km long Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge. He was the team leader in multipurpose Cyclone Shelter Program and prepared the Master Plan for Cyclone shelters in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. He is currently the Chairman of International Panel of Experts for the Padma Bridge. He headed many Task Force and committees formed by the Government of Bangladesh for formulation of ICT Policy (2009), currently being implemented by the Government.

Prof. Choudhury is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Bangladesh) and was its President in 1992-1993. He was a Fellow of Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) and Chartered Engineer, UK. He is a Fellow of Bangladesh Computer Society. Prof. Choudhury was Chairman, Board of Director of Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (1996-1998) and was the Chairman, Board of Governors, Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong. He is the President of Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee. He is a source of motivation and inspiration and a great role model for all.

Since 1986, DAM has been awarding the medal after noted educationists, social reformers and practitioner of Sufism Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R). Previously 20 medals were awarded to noted personalities for their contributions in different fields at the national level.
